Fine or medium thinning scissors?
Fine and medium describe the tooth patterns in this range, not the dog's coat type. Check tooth spacing, blade design and the manufacturer's description alongside the tooth count. The amount removed also depends on the coat and how you use the scissors, so do not assume that every 30-, 39- or 46-tooth model cuts the same way.
Single-serrated or double-serrated?
Single-serrated thinning scissors have teeth on one blade; double-serrated thinners have teeth on both. They are different cutting arrangements, not a guarantee of a particular removal percentage. Choose a design you can control comfortably and assess the result gradually as you work.
Choose the right fit for your hand

Blending and finishing
Work on clean, dry, combed-through coat, taking light passes and checking the finish between cuts. Keep the skin clear of the blades and stop if the dog moves or becomes unsettled. Thinning scissors are not a tool for cutting out tight mats; ask a professional groomer for help with matted coat or unfamiliar techniques.
