Mars Coat King - coarse, wood handle

Description

The Mars Coat King Coarse with wooden handle is a widely spaced grooming tool for removing loose undercoat from suitable thick, heavy coats. Choose it when an open blade pattern is more appropriate than the closely spaced teeth of a finishing tool.

  • Blade spacing: 5 mm (Coarse); this is the gap between blades, not a clipped coat length.
  • Construction: stainless-steel blades and a traditional wooden handle.
  • Maintenance: replaceable blade head.

Which Coarse size should I choose?

  • 6 or 8 blades: standard-width options.
  • 12 blades: a wider head for covering larger areas.

The wide 12-blade version retains the Coarse spacing; it is not the same tool as a Fine 12-blade Coat King. Blade count and blade spacing describe different things. Choose the width for the area you need to cover, and assess the coat before deciding on the grade.

For the same grade with a different grip, see the Coarse plastic-handle Coat King.

Replacement blades and careful use

Order Coarse replacement blade sets by matching the grade, blade count and head width. Our Coat King buying guide explains the options in more detail.

Use gentle strokes in the direction of hair growth on a clean, dry, prepared coat. Avoid tight mats, delicate areas and repeated passes over the same patch. These are bladed tools and can cut coat; seek breed-specific advice where preserving a hand-stripped or show finish matters. Remove hair after use and store dry.
