Wren infra-red heater lamps provide local radiant warmth for kennels, catteries, whelping areas and a wide range of animal-housing applications.

Designed around a dull-emitter element, Wren heaters produce heat without bright visible light. The radiant heat is directed towards the sleeping area, bedding or whelping box beneath the unit, helping create a warmer local zone without needing to heat the entire building.

They are widely used for dogs and cats, as well as poultry, game birds, cage birds and other livestock applications.

The right Wren heater depends on the size of the enclosure, insulation, ambient temperature, mounting height and the animal’s individual needs.

Always ensure animals can move away from the direct heat source and follow current installation guidance.

Wren Standard Heater Lamp

The Wren Standard is a compact infra-red heater designed for smaller enclosures and localised heating requirements.

It is suitable for use in well-planned kennel, cattery and breeding setups where a lower-output heater is appropriate.

Key features

  • Maximum element rating: 250W

  • Approx. reflector diameter: 29cm

  • Polished aluminium reflector

  • Heat- and weather-resistant element holder

  • Protective wire guard

  • Supplied with cable, plug and screw-in dull-emitter element fitting

  • Compatible with selected 80W, 100W, 150W, 200W and 250W Wren elements

The correct element wattage will depend on the enclosure, insulation, outside conditions and whether the heater is being used for an adult animal, a queen with kittens or a whelping area.

Wren Major Heater Lamp

The Wren Major is the larger model in the range, designed for applications where a wider heated area or higher output may be needed.

It is often suited to larger kennel compartments, broader sleeping areas and installations housing larger animals.

Key features

  • Maximum element rating: 400W

  • Approx. reflector diameter: 34cm

  • Polished aluminium reflector

  • Heat- and weather-resistant porcelain element holder

  • Protective wire guard

  • Supplied with cable, plug and screw-in dull-emitter element fitting

  • Compatible with selected 300W, 350W and 400W Wren elements

Heater output should always be selected based on the full environment, not breed or animal size alone.

Choosing the right Wren heater

When deciding between the Standard and Major models, consider:

  • Compartment size and layout

  • Insulation and draughts

  • Typical outdoor temperatures

  • Mounting height

  • Whether warmth is needed for adults, young animals or recovery

  • Whether the animal can move between warmer and cooler areas

  • Whether you may need a regulator or other compatible control system

For help choosing a suitable starting point, send us a photo or sketch of your setup, the compartment dimensions and details of the animals being housed.

Important safety information

Wren heaters must be securely installed, kept clear of bedding and combustible materials, and used in accordance with the current manufacturer instructions.

Electrical installation, alterations and fault-finding should be carried out by a qualified electrician. Regularly inspect cables, plugs, fittings and guards, and stop using the heater if any damage is found.
