Hairdressing Questions.
Q - My hairdryer seems to be getting much hotter than before, and my clients complain that it is uncomfortably hot. Is my dryer burning out?
A - Firstly, if the dryer has a filter, check that it is not obstructed or blocked which will restrict the airflow through the dryer, increasing the temperature of the air coming from the nozzle. Most professional hairdryers will have a removable filter which can be easily cleaned. If the filter is missing, the dryer and element may be choked with hair, again causing the overheating - and probably a burning smell! In this case, we would suggest that the dryer is serviced and cleaned without delay to prevent possible damage to the motor or element. Click here for the Diamond Edge Service and Repair shop.
Q - I was recently visited in my salon by someone offering an immediate sharpening service. One of my juniors gave him her scissors to be sharpened. When they were returned an hour later, the scissors felt rough and did not appear to cut as well as before they were sharpened. Should they be thrown away and replaced, or can anything be done with them?
A - We would always recommend that you only have your scissors serviced using a professional sharpening service, used to working with hairdressers' scissors. Almost certainly these scissors weren't cheap and are also the tools of your trade so we would suggest you only trust your scissors to known agents for sharpening services or use a mail order service. If you would care to send the scissors down to us, we would be pleased to inspect them for you and, if possible, put them right for you. Click here for the Diamond Edge Sharpening shop.
